FolioPitch.com – 11 August 2026 | Milan tell Fofana to find a new club as Crystal Palace and Marseille circle. The French midfielder, Youssouf Fofana, has been told by AC Milan to look for a new club, following the arrival of new coach Rúben Amorim. Fofana, who joined the club from Monaco for around €25m in 2024, has been left out of Amorim’s plans, with the Portuguese coach opting for a double pivot in midfield.
The decision reflects a wider shift under Amorim, who has moved Milan away from a midfield three towards a double pivot, leaving a glut of options, including Luka Modrić, Adrien Rabiot, Ardon Jashari, Samuele Ricci, and Yunus Musah, competing for two spots. Fofana, who believed he could still contribute to the team, is the first casualty of this change.
According to reports, Milan have delivered a clear message to Fofana: he is out of the project and must sort out his future this summer. The player’s representatives are now working to find a solution that suits all parties. The club will listen to offers, setting a valuation of no less than €20m, with the minimum required to avoid a book loss standing at €13m.
The early interest has come from England, with Crystal Palace leading a group of Premier League clubs keen on the 27-year-old. Marseille are another team to watch, with Pierre-Emile Højbjerg potentially leaving for Newcastle, where new coach Matthias Jaissle has made the Dane a priority. Should Højbjerg depart, Marseille could move for Fofana as a replacement.
AC Milan’s decision to tell Fofana to find a new club marks a significant shift in the team’s midfield dynamics. As the club looks to adapt to Amorim’s new system, it remains to be seen how Fofana’s departure will impact the team’s performance on the pitch. One thing is certain, however, with Crystal Palace and Marseille already circling, Fofana’s future is far from certain.
