Lazio Outcast Luca Pellegrini Set for Shock Recall Ahead of Monza Clash

FolioPitch.com – 10 October 2026 | In a dramatic twist at Formello, Lazio Outcast Could Be Reinstated Ahead of Monza Game as head coach Gennaro Gattuso pushes for Luca Pellegrini‘s return to the first-team squad. The 27-year-old left-back has been training away from the main group since being omitted from the Serie A squad list on September 2, but a series of events has opened the door for a remarkable comeback.

Pellegrini’s exile began after the arrivals of Alfonso Pedraza and the revitalisation of Nuno Tavares, which left him surplus to requirements. The club actively sought to sell him during the summer transfer window, but a move failed to materialise. Along with defender Patric, Pellegrini was left off the initial squad list, with Lazio opting to keep two slots open for potential free-agent signings. However, the landscape has shifted significantly since then. Diogo Leite filled one of those vacancies last month, and Patric has since been sold to Al-Ittifaq, leaving an open spot on the list. That vacancy, combined with Gattuso’s insistence, has made the prospect of Lazio Outcast Could Be Reinstated Ahead of Monza Game increasingly likely.

Gattuso’s Push for Pellegrini’s Return

According to reports from Il Messaggero, Gattuso has been actively advocating for Pellegrini’s reinstatement. The Lazio manager is not necessarily planning to hand the former Juventus man a prominent role—he already has two established left-backs in Pedraza and Tavares—but he views Pellegrini’s return as a potential morale booster for the squad. The Italian tactician believes that reintegrating a popular figure like Pellegrini could lift the spirits in the dressing room, especially with key players such as Davide Frattesi and Andrea Pinamonti also supporting the cause. The pair, who are close friends with Pellegrini, have reportedly lobbied for his return.

Imminent Reinstatement for Monza Fixture?

Il Corriere dello Sport has added fuel to the fire, suggesting that Pellegrini could be back in the squad as early as this weekend. If that happens, he would be called up for Sunday’s Serie A fixture against Monza. Such a swift reintegration would mark a stunning turnaround for a player who seemed destined to leave the club. The possibility of Lazio Outcast Could Be Reinstated Ahead of Monza Game is now a concrete reality, with the club eager to resolve the situation amicably.

A Move Away in January?

While a return to the fold would be a welcome reprieve for Pellegrini, it may only be temporary. The Roman newspaper notes that bringing him back into the squad could help him secure a move away in January. Pellegrini has already vowed to accept offers this winter, having previously snubbed opportunities in Turkey and other destinations during the summer. His contract with Lazio runs until June 2027, but barring a dramatic turnaround, he is not expected to earn a new deal. A strong showing in the coming months could attract suitors and facilitate a transfer.

Pellegrini’s Lazio Dream Turns Sour

Pellegrini is a childhood Lazio supporter who realised his dream by joining the club in January 2023. However, his second spell at the Stadio Olimpico has not gone according to plan. Limited playing time and the arrival of new signings pushed him to the periphery, leading to his omission from the squad list. Now, with Lazio Outcast Could Be Reinstated Ahead of Monza Game dominating the headlines, Pellegrini has a chance to remind everyone of his quality. Whether he stays beyond January or leaves, his immediate future could be resolved in the coming days.

Conclusion

Luca Pellegrini’s potential reinstatement is a testament to Gattuso’s man-management and the club’s need to fill an open squad slot. While his long-term future at Lazio remains uncertain, a return to the matchday squad for the Monza game would be a significant step. It would allow Pellegrini to train with the first team, potentially showcase his abilities, and secure a move in the winter window. For now, all eyes are on Formello to see if the outcast really does make a shock comeback.
