Scott McTominay Declares ‘I’m Back & With a Fresh Desire’ After Heart Surgery in Napoli’s 3-0 Win Over Frosinone

FolioPitch.com – 12 October 2026 | Scott McTominay has sent a defiant message to Napoli supporters after making his return from heart surgery in the club’s 3-0 Serie A victory over Frosinone on Saturday evening. The Scotland international, who underwent a minor procedure to correct a mild, benign arrhythmia earlier this month, took to Instagram on Sunday to declare: “I’m back & with a fresh desire. Lavora sempre.” In doing so, McTominay sends nine-word message after 3-0 win on return from heart surgery, a statement that encapsulates his relief and renewed determination. The midfielder’s comeback is a significant boost for Napoli as they continue their campaign.

The 26-year-old had been sidelined for Napoli’s previous four matches after being diagnosed with the heart condition during routine medical checks. The decision to undergo surgery was made jointly by the player and the club, with the procedure taking place in McTominay’s hometown of Manchester on September 8. This timing was strategic, allowing him to miss as few games as possible while utilising the extended September-October international break for recovery. Following two weeks of complete rest, McTominay returned to full training with Napoli during the international window, gradually building up his fitness.

His return to competitive action came as a second-half substitute in Napoli’s comfortable win over Frosinone. The former Manchester United man was introduced just after the hour mark and received a warm reception from the Partenopei faithful. Although he did not score or assist, his presence on the pitch was a welcome sight for manager and fans alike. The match itself was a routine victory for Napoli, who extended their unbeaten run and solidified their position in the upper echelons of the Serie A table.

McTominay’s message on social media resonated with supporters, who have taken the Scottish midfielder to their hearts since his summer move from Old Trafford. The phrase “Lavora sempre” – Italian for “always work” – reflects his dedication and work ethic, qualities that have endeared him to the Napoli fanbase. It also underscores his commitment to regaining full match sharpness and contributing to the team’s ambitions this season. The post quickly garnered thousands of likes and comments, with fans expressing their joy at seeing him back on the pitch.

The heart procedure, while minor, was a serious matter that required careful management. A mild, benign arrhythmia is a condition where the heart beats irregularly, but it is not life-threatening. However, it can cause palpitations, dizziness, and fatigue, and in athletes, it often necessitates surgical intervention to prevent complications during intense physical activity. McTominay’s decision to address the issue promptly demonstrates his professionalism and prioritisation of long-term health over short-term gains. The club’s medical staff played a crucial role in monitoring his recovery and ensuring a safe return to training.

Napoli’s 3-0 win over Frosinone was a comprehensive team performance, with goals from attacking players sealing the three points. The victory keeps Napoli in contention for a top-four finish and perhaps even a title challenge if they can maintain consistency. McTominay’s return adds depth to the midfield, providing manager Rudi Garcia with more options in the centre of the park. His energy, tackling ability, and knack for late runs into the box are attributes that Napoli have missed during his absence. As the season progresses, his fitness will be key to Napoli’s success in both domestic and European competitions.

The timing of McTominay’s return is also beneficial for Scotland, who have crucial European Championship qualifiers on the horizon. National team manager Steve Clarke will be delighted to have one of his key players back in action, especially given McTominay’s impressive goal-scoring record for his country. Scotland are well-positioned to qualify for the tournament in Germany, and a fit and firing McTominay will be essential to their chances. His experience in high-pressure matches, gained from his time at Manchester United and now in Serie A, will be invaluable for the national side.

Off the pitch, McTominay has settled quickly into life in Naples, embracing the culture and the passionate support of the Napoli fans. His social media posts often feature Italian phrases, showing his efforts to integrate. The message “Lavora sempre” is just the latest example of his connection with the local community. It is clear that he feels a strong bond with the club and its supporters, and his return from heart surgery has only strengthened that relationship. The fans, in turn, have shown their appreciation by flooding his comments with messages of support and encouragement.

Looking ahead, McTominay will be eager to regain his starting spot in the Napoli midfield. Competition for places is fierce, with several talented players vying for minutes. However, his unique skill set and the faith shown in him by the coaching staff suggest he will feature prominently once fully fit. The coming weeks will see Napoli face a challenging run of fixtures, and McTominay’s availability could be a decisive factor in those matches. His ability to break up play and drive forward with the ball adds a different dimension to Napoli’s play, and fans are excited to see him back in action.

In conclusion, Scott McTominay’s return to the pitch after heart surgery is a testament to his resilience and determination. His nine-word message after the 3-0 win over Frosinone – “I’m back & with a fresh desire. Lavora sempre” – perfectly captures his mindset as he embarks on the next chapter of his Napoli career. The midfielder’s comeback is not just a personal triumph but also a significant boost for Napoli and Scotland. As he continues to build up his fitness, McTominay sends nine-word message after 3-0 win on return from heart surgery that will inspire teammates and fans alike. With his work ethic and talent, he is poised to make a lasting impact in Serie A and beyond.
