Lazio Accelerate Talks with Brighton for Italian Defender Diego Coppola

FolioPitch.com – 02 July 2026 | Lazio Negotiating With Brighton for Defender Who Could Arrive Immediately, as the Biancocelesti look to bolster their backline amid a defensive overhaul. The Rome-based club has identified Hellas Verona graduate Diego Coppola as the ideal candidate, with negotiations currently underway between the two sides.

Lazio are undergoing a significant defensive rebuild this summer. The club has agreed to sell captain Alessio Romagnoli to Al-Sadd, with Oliver Provstgaard expected to fill the left-footed center-back role. However, the potential departure of Mario Gila—linked to Napoli and Atalanta—could leave a gap that requires immediate reinforcement. Lazio Negotiating With Brighton for Defender Who Could Arrive Immediately thus becomes a crucial move to ensure depth and quality.

According to reports from Il Messaggero, Gennaro Gattuso has given the green light for the 22-year-old Italian international. While the manager initially preferred Sergi Dominguez or Arnau Martinez, the financial advantages of signing Coppola are significant. A new Italian regulation exempts costs (wages and amortization) for U23 Italian players from the club’s financial oversight, allowing Lazio to bypass their net-zero transfer restriction. This means Lazio Negotiating With Brighton for Defender Who Could Arrive Immediately can complete the deal without waiting for outgoing sales, unlike foreign targets.

Coppola joined Brighton from Hellas Verona last summer for around €11 million but struggled for game time. He was loaned to Paris FC in January, where he became a regular starter. Now, Brighton are open to a permanent transfer, and Lazio are pushing to secure his services. The urgency is clear: with Romagnoli out and Gila possibly next, Lazio’s defensive line needs immediate reinforcement. Lazio Negotiating With Brighton for Defender Who Could Arrive Immediately is not just a rumor but a strategic necessity.

The negotiations are progressing well, with sources indicating that personal terms are not an issue. Coppola, a former Italy U21 captain, brings Serie A experience and a strong defensive pedigree. His arrival would provide depth alongside Provstgaard and Patric, ensuring Lazio remain competitive in Serie A and European competitions. As the market evolves, all eyes are on the Roman capital to see if this deal closes swiftly.

In conclusion, Lazio’s proactive approach in pursuing Diego Coppola underscores their commitment to a balanced squad while navigating financial constraints. The Lazio Negotiating With Brighton for Defender Who Could Arrive Immediately narrative is one of strategic planning, regulatory savvy, and urgent need. Fans will hope the deal concludes before the season kicks off, solidifying a defense that has already seen significant changes.
