Lazio Eye Double Defensive Reinforcements: Dominguez and Coppola on Radar

FolioPitch.com – 04 July 2026 | Lazio Plot Double Defensive Coup as Brighton Misfit Could Join Young Spaniard, with the Serie A side preparing to overhaul their backline this summer. The Biancocelesti are set to lose Alessio Romagnoli and Mario Gila, prompting a search for two centre-backs.

According to reports, Lazio have identified Sergi Dominguez, a 21-year-old Spanish defender currently at Dinamo Zagreb, as their primary target. Dominguez, a Barcelona academy product, joined the Croatian champions last summer and quickly became a key figure, helping them secure a domestic double. His performances have caught the eye of Lazio officials, who see him as an ideal replacement for fellow Spaniard Gila. The cost is estimated between €7 million and €10 million.

Interestingly, Lazio Plot Double Defensive Coup as Brighton Misfit Could Join Young Spaniard, but they are also pursuing a second defender: Diego Coppola. The 22-year-old Italian, a Hellas Verona youth product, moved to Brighton for £10 million last summer but struggled for game time. He spent the second half of the season on loan at Paris FC, where he impressed. Brighton are reportedly open to an initial loan with an option to buy, a structure that suits Lazio’s finances.

Dominguez brings technical ability and versatility, while Coppola offers physicality and familiarity with Italian football, having been called up to the national team by Gennaro Gattuso.

Currently, Lazio’s defensive options include young Danish defender Oliver Provstgaard, who could step up after Romagnoli’s departure, as well as experienced pair Patric and Samuel Gigot. However, the club clearly aims to refresh the squad by bringing in younger talents.

The decision to pursue two defenders stems from the likely exits of Romagnoli, who has confirmed he will join Qatari side Al-Sadd, and Gila, who is a target for AC Milan. Lazio’s management, led by sporting director Angelo Fabiani, is working diligently to secure these deals before the pre-season begins.

For Dominguez, the move to Lazio represents a step up after his successful stint in Croatia. For Coppola, it is a chance to revive his career after a difficult spell in England. Both players have the potential to form a long-term partnership at the heart of Lazio’s defense.

If both transfers materialize, Lazio will have effectively replaced their departing starters with promising talents who can grow with the team.
