Denzel Dumfries Completes Move to Real Madrid from Inter: Official

FolioPitch.com – 05 July 2026 | The transfer that had been rumored for weeks has finally been confirmed: Official Dumfries joins Real Madrid from Inter. Both clubs announced the deal on Friday, with the Dutch right-back signing a contract until June 2030 after Inter activated his €20 million release clause.

The announcement marks the end of a five-year spell for Dumfries at the San Siro, where he became a fan favorite with his dynamic attacking runs and knack for crucial goals. In 207 appearances for the Nerazzurri, the 30-year-old scored 27 times and provided 28 assists, helping the club win two Serie A titles, three Coppa Italia trophies, and three Italian Super Cups.

Inter’s official statement paid tribute to Dumfries’ memorable moments, including his first goal at the Olimpico after a goal-saving block, a dramatic stoppage-time winner at Lecce, and a brace in the Supercoppa Italiana against Atalanta. The club also highlighted his Champions League heroics against Barcelona at Montjuïc, where he scored a bicycle kick and a header, and his emotional connection with the fans after elimination in Munich. “On certain nights, Denzel Justus Morris Dumfries seemed to come from another planet,” the statement read.

Real Madrid’s announcement was more concise, confirming that Dumfries had signed a four-year deal. The move had been widely anticipated after reports emerged that Real Madrid would trigger Dumfries’ release clause. The Spanish giants see him as a key addition to their defensive line, given his experience and attacking prowess.

With the official Dumfries joins Real Madrid from Inter, the Italian club now faces the challenge of finding a replacement. Inter had targeted Marco Palestra, but the young Italian opted to join Chelsea instead. The Nerazzurri are now pursuing Anan Khalaili of Union Saint-Gilloise as a potential successor.

Dumfries’ departure marks a significant shift for Inter, who relied heavily on his energy and forward runs. His ability to contribute goals from the right flank was a unique asset, and his exit leaves a gap that will be difficult to fill. For Real Madrid, the arrival of Dumfries adds depth and competition at right-back, a position that has seen rotation in recent seasons.

The official Dumfries joins Real Madrid from Inter also ends a chapter for the Dutch international, who arrived at Inter from PSV in 2021 for €14.2 million. He quickly established himself as a regular starter and became a cult hero with his aggressive style and crucial contributions in big matches. His most memorable performances include the derby battles against AC Milan, where he received the only red card of his Inter career during the Scudetto-clinching match, and his brace in the Supercoppa Italiana.

As Dumfries embarks on a new adventure in Madrid, Inter will look to rebuild without him. The club’s statement expressed gratitude: “Perhaps we all fell in love with Denzel Dumfries on that day at the Olimpico… Thank you, Denzel, for all the emotions and unforgettable moments.”

In conclusion, the official Dumfries joins Real Madrid from Inter is a blockbuster transfer that strengthens Real Madrid’s squad while leaving Inter with a void to fill. Dumfries’ dynamic style is expected to fit well in La Liga, and Real Madrid fans will hope he replicates his Inter form. For now, both clubs move forward, with Dumfries set to wear the white jersey of Real Madrid next season.
