Lazio Close to Securing €12M Deal for Dinamo Zagreb’s Sergi Dominguez

FolioPitch.com – 10 July 2026 | Lazio are on the verge of finalizing a transfer that would bring Dinamo Zagreb defender Sergi Dominguez to the Italian capital, with reports indicating that the club is Lazio Very Close to Reaching Club-To-Club Agreement for 12M Defender. The Biancocelesti have been active in the summer market, and after several key departures, they are now targeting the 21-year-old Spanish centre-back to reinforce their backline.

In recent weeks, Lazio have seen a significant overhaul of their defensive unit. Mario Gila has been sold to AC Milan for €30 million, Ivan Provedel has moved to Inter Milan, and Alessio Romagnoli has signed for Al-Sadd in Qatar. With only Oliver Provstgaard, Patric, and Samuel Gigot remaining under manager Gennaro Gattuso, the club urgently needs at least one new centre-half. Dominguez has emerged as the primary target after an impressive debut season with Dinamo Zagreb, where he helped the club win the domestic double.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Lazio sporting director Angelo Fabiani traveled to Split on Thursday for direct talks with Dinamo Zagreb officials. The discussions have been productive, and the two clubs are now Lazio Very Close to Reaching Club-To-Club Agreement for 12M Defender. The initial asking price was €15 million, but negotiations have brought the fee closer to €12 million, which is seen as a fair compromise after Lazio initially offered €10 million. If all goes smoothly, Dominguez is expected to arrive in Rome within days to fill the void left by Gila.

Dominguez, like his compatriot Gila, was born in Barcelona but developed through the famed La Masia academy at Barcelona. However, while Gila honed his skills at Real Madrid’s youth system, Dominguez represents a product of Barcelona’s prestigious youth setup. Last season, he made 41 appearances across all competitions for Dinamo, scoring two goals and providing four assists—a testament to his attacking instincts from the back. His versatility and composure on the ball make him a suitable fit for Gattuso’s tactical demands.

The urgency of the deal underscores Lazio’s need to rebuild defensively. With the new Serie A season approaching, Gattuso will want his squad settled as soon as possible. The club’s pursuit of Dominguez reflects a clear strategy: investing in young, talented defenders with room for growth. At 21, the Spaniard has already proven his worth in Croatia and has the potential to develop into a top-level Serie A player.

Moreover, the transfer fee of €12 million is considered reasonable in the current market, especially given Dominguez’s age and performances. Dinamo Zagreb had initially hoped for a higher sum, but Lazio’s persistence and the player’s desire to move have facilitated the negotiations. The club’s ability to close this deal quickly demonstrates their efficiency in the transfer window, despite the departures of key players.

In conclusion, Lazio are on the brink of adding a promising defender to their ranks. The Lazio Very Close to Reaching Club-To-Club Agreement for 12M Defender narrative has dominated recent headlines, and with the deal likely to be completed in the coming days, fans can expect an official announcement soon. Dominguez’s arrival will not only bolster Lazio’s defense but also signal the club’s ambition to compete at the highest level.
