FolioPitch.com – 25 July 2026 | Lazio has reportedly opened talks with Fiorentina for the transfer of two Italian midfielders, Nuno Tavares, in a bid to strengthen their midfield department. The Biancocelesti have been searching for a midfielder who can play behind the striker, and it appears they have turned their attention to domestic solutions.
According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Lazio is discussing deals for Marco Brescianini and Giovanni Fabbian, both of whom are available on the market. The Aquile are aiming to sign only one of the two midfielders, with Brescianini being their preferred choice.
Brescianini is a 26-year-old midfielder who has enjoyed a breakthrough season at Frosinone in the 2023/24 campaign. He moved to Atalanta in the summer of 2024 but struggled for playing time, leading to a loan move to Fiorentina in January 2026. He recently sealed a permanent transfer to the Viola for €10 million.
Brescianini is a hardworking player who can fill various roles in the middle of the park, including a box-to-box midfielder and an attacking midfielder. He is expected to bring a new dimension to Lazio’s midfield, which has been lacking in creativity and energy.
Fabbian, on the other hand, is a 23-year-old creative attacking midfielder who has shown great promise during his loan stint at Reggina in Serie B. He moved to Fiorentina on loan in January but found limited space, leading to a permanent transfer. Fabbian is expected to bring a new level of creativity to Lazio’s midfield, which has been struggling to create scoring opportunities.
The discussion extended to Nuno Tavares, who has been on Fiorentina’s watchlist since the start of the summer. However, it appears that the Portuguese full-back is expected to remain at Lazio, despite the arrival of Alfonso Pedraza. Luca Pellegrini is the more likely candidate to make way, at least based on the status quo.
Lazio’s midfield revamp takes shape as they look to strengthen their department with the addition of Brescianini or Fabbian. The Biancocelesti have been struggling to create scoring opportunities, and the arrival of one of these midfielders could be the catalyst for a change in fortunes.
