Napoli’s Defensive Crisis: Why Badiashile is the Perfect Fit

FolioPitch.com – 04 August 2026 | Napoli‘s push for Chelsea‘s Badiashile to solve defensive crisis has been intense, with the Italian club desperate to strengthen their backline. According to Corriere dello Sport, Badiashile has become Napoli’s leading target after Alessandro Buongiorno was struck down by a knee problem, and Sam Beukema was left battling fitness issues of his own.

The Frenchman, a towering left-footed centre-back, appeals to Massimiliano Allegri as a natural stand-in for Buongiorno, and sporting director Giovanni Manna has been working on the deal since the club’s training camp in Dimaro.

Napoli’s desire for a loan with an option to buy has, however, been met with resistance from Chelsea, who are pushing for a permanent sale. The Blues, who paid £35m for Badiashile in 2023, are keen to trim their bloated squad and defense, as Xabi Alonso has acknowledged.

The recent €30m-plus sale of Miguel Gutiérrez to Bayer Leverkusen provided welcome breathing room, though under UEFA rules the resulting gain must be spread across three years. Manna’s balancing act is far from over, as Napoli must sell before they can buy.

Badiashile’s recent injury record may have raised concerns, but his potential to relaunch himself in Serie A and play in the Champions League may yet sway the Frenchman to Napoli. Chelsea’s own need to trim their squad, and their defense in particular, may yet help Napoli’s cause.

The Partenopei must navigate the complexities of the transfer market, but with Badiashile as their target, they may just find the solution to their defensive crisis.

In a recent statement, Chelsea’s manager Xabi Alonso acknowledged the need to trim the squad, particularly the defense, which has been a major concern for the team. Napoli’s push for Badiashile has been intense, with the club desperate to strengthen their backline.
