Gimenez on the Move: Mercado Azul Porto in Talks Over Striker’s Future

FolioPitch.com – 05 August 2026 | After a disappointing World Cup and a recent injury that forced him to return to Milanello, Santiago Gimenez‘s future at AC Milan has been shrouded in uncertainty. However, a recent report has claimed that Porto have rekindled their interest in the Mexican striker, with Gimenez himself keen to move to the Portuguese club.

Mercado Azul has reported that Gimenez has already had a direct conversation with Porto’s coach, Francesco Farioli, who recently led the team to Portuguese league success. The two men discussed various topics, including Gimenez’s physical condition and the club’s project.

Gimenez’s motivation for a new adventure seems to be there after a disappointing spell with Milan, which has so far lasted just over 18 months and resulted in only seven goals scored. These rumors follow previous reports that were denied over a month ago, but this time, there appears to be some concrete basis for the transfer.

The biggest obstacle in the deal concerns the terms of the agreement. Porto have no intention of permanently signing Gimenez, presumably due to his uncertain physical condition after the year just ended. Instead, they propose a loan deal with an option to buy, a formula that doesn’t fully convince Milan at the moment.

Other financial aspects also remain to be finalised, such as the loan fee and the salary arrangement. Porto’s idea is to set up the deal on a loan with an option to buy, a formula that doesn’t fully convince Milan at the moment.

The Portuguese champions are not the only ones alert to Gimenez’s future, however. Lazio are also closely monitoring the Rossoneri’s number 7, while Fenerbahce have been recently linked to the player.

As the transfer market continues to heat up, it remains to be seen whether Gimenez will finally find the opportunity he is looking for. One thing is certain, however – his future at AC Milan is far from secure.

Gimenez’s situation is a reminder that in the world of football, nothing is certain, and even the most promising players can find themselves on the move in the blink of an eye.

The uncertainty surrounding Gimenez’s future is a testament to the ever-changing nature of the transfer market, where clubs and players are constantly looking for the best opportunities to succeed.

Only time will tell if Gimenez will finally find the happiness he is searching for, but one thing is certain – his future is far from certain.

As the transfer market continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how Gimenez’s situation unfolds.

The Portuguese club’s proposal is a reminder that even the most promising players can find themselves on the move in the blink of an eye.
