Spalletti’s Juventus Impress with Attitude and Determination in 1-0 Win Over Chelsea

FolioPitch.com – 05 August 2026 | Luciano Spalletti’s Juventus side has sent a strong message to their competitors with a 1-0 win over Chelsea in a pre-season friendly match in Hong Kong. The Bianconeri’s good attitude and determination were on full display as they beat the Blues with a single goal from Edon Zhegrova, while keeping another clean sheet in their summer tests.

Spalletti was pleased with his team’s performance, particularly their ability to remain a unit throughout the match. ‘We managed to remain a team unit throughout the match, both when suffering under pressure, and on the counter-attack,’ he said in an interview with Sky Sport Italia. ‘The attitude was one of unity. Chelsea know how to do everything, build from the back, finish, set off with pace, so it was important that we didn’t bow down to them.’

The coach also praised Kenan Yildiz, who has been struggling with a recurring knee issue, for providing the assist for Zhegrova’s goal. ‘He is a very important player for us, we are limiting the minutes he has on the field as part of a planned process. He no longer feels pain and is smiling, so that’s good to know,’ Spalletti added.

There were a few eyebrows raised when Jonathan David came on at half-time, only to be substituted off again after 30 minutes. However, Spalletti explained that it was a strategic decision, ‘It’s August, you have to do a lot of substitutions and strategic ones too,’ he said. ‘I gave debuts to two youngsters, and had David on the field for 30 minutes, he couldn’t do more at this moment in time. I thought it better to use him at half-time when the game was still more lively.’

Spalletti’s Juventus had a positive outing, and the coach is confident that his team will continue to improve as the season progresses. ‘As I’ve already said, I have a very good rapport with the club, we talked and they are working to get the best outcomes,’ he concluded.

With the new season just around the corner, Juventus fans will be eager to see their team in action. The Bianconeri have a lot of work to do to catch up with their competitors, but with a good attitude and determination, they may just surprise everyone.
