Sarri Calls Lazio Stalwart Urges Him to Join Him at Atalanta: A New Chapter Awaits

FolioPitch.com – 07 August 2026 | Maurizio Sarri, the 67-year-old manager of Atalanta, has reached out to Alessio Romagnoli, a stalwart of Lazio, to persuade him to join his squad at the end of the season. The Sarri Calls Lazio Stalwart Urges Him to Join Him at Atalanta move comes as a surprise, given the circumstances surrounding Romagnoli’s current situation at Lazio.

Romagnoli’s relationship with Lazio president Claudio Lotito has been strained, particularly due to unfulfilled promises regarding a pay raise, dating back to 2023. Despite bidding farewell to the fans twice this year, Romagnoli remains on the team, reinstated after being poised to join Al-Sadd due to financial restrictions imposed by the state of Qatar.

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Sarri personally contacted Romagnoli, inviting him to join Atalanta. The former Napoli and Chelsea head coach values Romagnoli as a key player in his tactical scheme at Lazio, but the defender is hesitant to accept, as he had hoped to conclude his story in Italian football with Lazio before moving abroad.

The Sarri Calls Lazio Stalwart Urges Him to Join Him at Atalanta scenario is still unfolding, with Sarri and Atalanta expected to continue pursuing Romagnoli. Lazio had agreed to sell the defender to Al-Sadd for €3 million, but it remains to be seen if Lotito’s asking price will change when negotiating with a Serie A rival.

As the situation develops, it will be interesting to see whether Romagnoli will opt for a new chapter at Atalanta or remain at Lazio, amidst the ongoing tensions with Lotito.
