Amorim’s Difficult Summer Takes a Turn for the Worse with Four Key Issues

FolioPitch.com – 14 August 2026 | GdS Thorns in the side Amorim’s difficult summer made harder by four issues. Ruben Amorim’s tenure at AC Milan has been marred by unexpected challenges, according to a recent report by La Gazzetta dello Sport. As the Portuguese coach navigates his first month at Milanello, he faces a testing period, both personally and professionally.

Amorim’s recovery from the difficult experience in Manchester with United is hindered by four key issues that need to be resolved. Firstly, the situation surrounding Rafael Leao’s future remains unclear. The Portuguese winger shocked the Rossoneri world by announcing his intention to leave in late May, but two and a half months later, everything is still up in the air. Leao has expressed his desire to focus solely on the pitch, but it’s unclear where he will be in September.

The issue is potentially explosive, as Leao’s ambitions for a big club clash with the market. No team from England has come forward, and Turkish clubs have knocked, but Leao isn’t interested. The conditions set by Milan, demanding at least €50m to sell, have put teams off. Amorim will need to handle this situation delicately, as Leao’s game doesn’t seem to be a perfect fit for the 3-4-2-1 formation.

Secondly, Amorim faces the challenge of resolving the situation surrounding the two Frenchmen, Mike Maignan and Adrien Rabiot. The case has exploded in the last few days, and the coach himself has played a part in the charade, having endorsed the request for additional vacation time made by the duo. Maignan, who will retain the captain’s armband, is a crucial player for Milan, and a resolution to this issue is essential.

Thirdly, Amorim needs to address the Pulisic issue. The American returned injured from the World Cup and is currently continuing his recovery program at Milanello. He should return to training with the team on Monday, but it’s hard to imagine seeing him start against Torino. Amorim has already been very clear about Pulisic, considering him crucial to his plans and his vision for the attacking midfield area.

In conclusion, Amorim’s difficult summer has taken a turn for the worse with four key issues that need to be resolved. The Portuguese coach faces a testing period, both personally and professionally, as he navigates these challenges. Only time will tell if he can resolve these issues and lead AC Milan to success in the upcoming season.
