Luka Modric Arrives in Perth: A New Era for Milan Under Amorim

FolioPitch.com – 02 August 2026 | The headline story unfolding in Western Australia is unmistakable: GdS Amorim thrilled as Modric arrives in Perth to start Milan pre-season. The Croatian legend touched down at the Rossoneri’s team hotel alongside fellow midfielder Ardon Jashari, while Koni De Winter and Alexis Saelemaekers are also expected to arrive shortly, completing the squad for what promises to be a transformative summer camp.

Gazzetta dello Sport has devoted considerable attention to Milan’s No. 14, knowing this could be the final competitive season of his extraordinary career. After the disappointment of the 2025-26 campaign, Modric has made it clear he wants to leave the game on his own terms—with another trophy, his 35th, and a sense of fulfillment that has eluded him in recent months.

Anticipation around his arrival has been palpable, and not only among Milan supporters. Perth boasts a vibrant Croatian community, and many are eager to catch a glimpse of the player who has defined an era of midfield mastery. Despite the holiday period, Modric has maintained an intense personal training regimen, ensuring he arrives in peak condition rather than needing to play catch-up with his younger teammates.

On September 9th, he will celebrate his 41st birthday, a remarkable milestone for any athlete, let alone one who has won the Champions League six times. His dedication serves as a powerful example for Milan’s emerging talents, many of whom grew up admiring his ability to dictate tempo and control the flow of a match.

October 6th will mark an emotional moment for football fans worldwide, as Modric officially bids adieu to his national team in a Nations League clash against Spain in Split. Once that chapter closes, his entire focus will shift to the Rossoneri jersey, where he dreams of adding one more piece of silverware to a collection that already dazzles.

Ruben Amorim, Milan’s Portuguese coach, has been unequivocal about the value Modric brings to the squad. The two have spoken extensively on the phone since the renewal was agreed, and their first face-to-face meeting in Perth only reinforced the mutual respect. Amorim pushed hard for the extension, and upon Modric’s arrival, he reiterated his vision: “His experience will help our young players develop, and it will be crucial in our growth. We want to build our game on possession, and if there is anyone in the world who can truly help us manage the ball, it’s Luka.”

Amorim’s enthusiasm has not gone unnoticed. The phrase “GdS Amorim thrilled as Modric arrives in Perth to start Milan pre-season” encapsulates the optimism flowing through the Milan camp. The Portuguese coach sees the veteran as the fulcrum around which his possession-based philosophy can flourish—a role Modric has perfected at the highest level for over a decade.

For Modric, the decision to continue was never truly in doubt once he heard Amorim’s plans. The young squad members also campaigned for his return, believing his guidance can accelerate their development. The chemistry inside the dressing room has already been described as electric, with veterans and newcomers alike eager to learn from a player who has finally decided where his immediate future lies.

In a touching gesture, Modric has allowed his 2018 Ballon d’Or to be displayed at the Casa Milan museum, where it will remain for the coming months. This temporary loan is a heartfelt thank you to the Rossoneri faithful, who have made his shirt the best-selling item in both official stores and online channels. It is a symbol of the bond that has formed between a living legend and a fanbase desperate for a return to glory.

As the team settles into Perth, the focus now shifts to the series of friendly matches and training sessions that will shape Milan’s tactical identity under Amorim. The coach faces the pleasant challenge of integrating new signings while ensuring his star-studded midfield operates as a cohesive unit. Modric’s presence offers immediate reassurance, given his ability to read the game and connect lines with unerring precision.

The broader Serie A landscape is watching closely. Milan, having struggled last season, rebuilt around a blend of youth and proven experience. Amorim’s task is to turn that mix into a winning formula, and his confidence in Modric suggests the Croatian will be central to everything Milan attempts this year.

In many ways, this pre-season represents a clean slate. The pain of past failures still lingers, but there is a palpable sense of renewal in the air—and at its heart stands a maestro who refuses to fade quietly into retirement. The impact of GdS Amorim thrilled as Modric arrives in Perth to start Milan pre-season will be measured in silverware, but the very fact that Modric chose Milan for his final bow speaks volumes about the project.

Ultimately, the story transcends tactics. It is about pride, legacy, and the unquenchable desire to compete at the highest level. As Modric jogs onto the training pitches of Perth, he carries the hopes of an entire club and the admiration of the footballing world. If his pre-season preparation is any indication, he is ready to silence doubters once more.
