UCL Inter 3-4 Club Brugge: Tresoldi Hat-Trick Dooms Chivu’s Champions League Hopes

FolioPitch.com – 14 October 2026 | In a pulsating UEFA Champions League encounter at the iconic San Siro, Club Brugge stunned Inter Milan with a 4-3 victory, thanks to a remarkable hat-trick from Nicolò Tresoldi. The match, which saw the UCL Inter 3-4 Club Brugge Terrific Tresoldi hat-trick dooms Chivu headline unfold dramatically, left the Nerazzurri rooted to zero points after two games in the league phase. Inter’s coach, Cristian Chivu, watched helplessly as his side succumbed to individual errors and clinical finishing from the Belgian champions.

The game began with high intensity, as Inter looked to bounce back from their narrow 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid. However, Club Brugge, marshalled by former Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer, had other ideas. Sommer, facing his old club, was in inspired form, denying Andy Diouf early on and then watching as Marcus Thuram’s angled drive flashed wide. The Belgian side grew into the game, and their breakthrough came from the penalty spot after Carlos Forbs was brought down by Hakan Calhanoglu. Tresoldi, a lifelong Milan fan, coolly converted into the roof of the net, sending the away fans into raptures.

Inter responded well, with Calhanoglu hitting the crossbar and Lautaro Martinez having a goal correctly ruled offside. The equaliser finally arrived in the 44th minute when Thuram surged down the left and laid the ball off for Federico Dimarco, whose back-heel flick found Lautaro. The Inter captain sold a dummy to a defender and swept the ball home from six yards, marking his first Champions League goal since November 2025. The San Siro erupted, but their joy was short-lived.

In the second half, Club Brugge restored their lead through Tresoldi once more. Dimarco failed to track the pace of Forbs, and goalkeeper Josep Martinez was caught in no man’s land, allowing Tresoldi to tap into an empty net. The Italian-German forward, who has been linked with a move to the Italian national team, completed his hat-trick in the 74th minute, pouncing on a rebound after another Josep Martinez save. The UCL Inter 3-4 Club Brugge Terrific Tresoldi hat-trick dooms Chivu narrative was firmly taking shape.

Inter, who have shown resilience in Serie A by coming from behind to win several games, believed they could stage another comeback. Petar Sucic’s screamer was parried by Sommer into the path of Lautaro Martinez, who made it 3-2 in the 81st minute. However, Club Brugge added a fourth when Djed Spence’s wayward pass was intercepted by Forbs, who sent Romeo Vermant through to dink the ball over Josep Martinez. Ange-Yoan Bonny pulled one back in stoppage time with a curling effort, but it was too little, too late. The UCL Inter 3-4 Club Brugge Terrific Tresoldi hat-trick dooms Chivu result leaves Inter with a mountain to climb in Europe.

Statistically, Inter dominated possession with 53% and had 30 shots to Club Brugge’s 18, but they were let down by defensive lapses and Sommer’s brilliance. The defeat raises serious questions about Chivu’s tactics and Inter’s ability to compete at the highest level. For Club Brugge, it was a famous night, with Tresoldi’s hat-trick writing his name into Champions League folklore.

As the dust settles, Inter must regroup quickly for their next European fixture, while Club Brugge will savour a memorable victory. The UCL Inter 3-4 Club Brugge Terrific Tresoldi hat-trick dooms Chivu encounter will be remembered for Tresoldi’s clinical finishing and Inter’s defensive frailties. Chivu’s future may now hinge on how his team responds in the coming weeks.

In conclusion, this match served as a stark reminder of the fine margins in Champions League football.
