Boston Legacy Lands Gift Monday in Blockbuster Trade with Washington Spirit

FolioPitch.com – 08 October 2026 | In a move that underscores the ambition of the NWSL‘s newest expansion side, A Gift for Boston Gift Monday traded from Washington Spirit to Boston Legacy was officially announced on Thursday afternoon. The Nigerian international striker joins Boston Legacy FC, bringing a proven goalscoring pedigree and a historic record to the club’s inaugural campaign. The trade sees Washington Spirit receive $500,000 in transfer threshold funds, along with a 20 percent sell-on clause should Boston later transfer or trade Monday to a third club.

The deal marks a significant coup for Boston Legacy, who are building their roster ahead of their first NWSL season. General Manager Domè Guasch expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “Gift brings a unique set of qualities as a forward that will add another dimension to our attack. She will contribute to our high press, create opportunities and be dangerous in the final third. She’s also a team player, and that matters to us as much as her quality on the pitch.”

Monday’s arrival in Boston follows a standout 2025 season with the Washington Spirit, where she made 16 starts in 40 appearances across all competitions. The 25-year-old forward etched her name into NWSL history by scoring the fastest hat-trick in league history, netting three goals in just 35 minutes and 52 seconds against the Houston Dash. That explosive performance showcased her clinical finishing and ability to change a game in an instant.

“Since arriving, Monday has been a valuable contributor in our attacking third and played an integral role in helping this club reach the NWSL Championship last season,” said Washington Spirit Sporting Director James Hocken. “We wish her nothing but continued success in the next stage of her career.”

Monday’s journey to the NWSL is a testament to her perseverance and talent. She began her professional career in 2016 with COD United Amazons in Nigeria, scoring 18 goals in 25 appearances through May 2018. She then moved to FC Robo, also in Nigeria, where she added 13 goals. In 2021, she joined Bayelsa Queens for one season before making the leap to Europe with UD Tenerife in Spain’s Liga F. There, she scored 19 goals in 66 appearances from 2022 to 2025, establishing herself as a reliable scorer in a competitive league.

On the international stage, Monday has been equally impactful for Nigeria, scoring seven goals in 22 appearances. She most recently found the net against Egypt in the Women’s African Cup of Nations and has been named to Nigeria’s squad for Olympic qualifying matches against Comoros on October 9 and 13 in Ikenne, Nigeria.

The trade represents a strategic move for both clubs. Washington Spirit gain valuable allocation money and a future sell-on clause, while Boston Legacy acquire a dynamic forward in the prime of her career. For Boston, the addition of Monday signals their intent to compete immediately in the NWSL. Her speed, pressing ability, and knack for scoring goals in bunches will be crucial for an expansion team looking to make a mark.

As A Gift for Boston Gift Monday traded from Washington Spirit to Boston Legacy continues to resonate around the league, it’s clear that Boston Legacy are not content with simply participating in their first season. They are building a team capable of challenging for honors. Monday’s historic hat-trick and her consistent scoring record in multiple leagues suggest she could be the centerpiece of Boston’s attack for years to come.

In conclusion, the trade of Gift Monday to Boston Legacy is a landmark moment for the expansion franchise. It demonstrates their willingness to invest in top talent and their ambition to succeed from day one. For Monday, it’s a new chapter in a career that has already seen her overcome obstacles and achieve historic feats. As she joins her new teammates and prepares for the upcoming season, all eyes will be on Boston to see if this gift keeps on giving.
