Como Lead Chase for Former Milan Youngster Liberali as Serie A Clubs Circle

FolioPitch.com – 29 June 2026 | The Como lead chase for former Milan youngster Liberali has emerged as one of the most compelling transfer narratives of the summer window. The Lombardy club, currently navigating their second consecutive Serie A campaign under the guidance of Cesc Fabregas, are pushing hard to secure the services of Mattia Liberali, a talented attacking midfielder who left the Rossoneri last year. The Como lead chase for former Milan youngster Liberali is driven by the need to add creativity and depth to their squad, especially with European ambitions on the horizon.

Liberali, 22, departed Milan in a permanent move to Catanzaro last summer, a decision that surprised many given his pedigree in the youth ranks. However, the move proved to be a masterstroke for the player, as he quickly established himself as a key figure in Serie B. His debut campaign was marked by a slow start, but the second half of the season saw him explode into form, contributing crucial goals and assists that propelled Catanzaro to the brink of promotion via the play-offs. His performances did not go unnoticed, and soon a host of top-flight clubs began monitoring his situation.

Fiorentina, Alberto Aquilani’s Sassuolo, and Ignazio Abate’s Torino have all expressed interest in recent days, but according to multiple reports, it is Como who are making the most concrete moves. The Como lead chase for former Milan youngster Liberali has placed them ahead of these rivals, with the club reportedly willing to meet his release clause. The clause is set at approximately €6 million, a fee that represents excellent value for a player of his potential. Additionally, Milan retain a 50% sell-on clause, meaning the Rossoneri stand to benefit significantly from any future transfer.

For Como, signing Liberali would be a statement of intent. The club has been aggressive in the transfer market since their promotion to Serie A, and adding a player of Liberali’s calibre would bolster their attacking options. Even if current star Nico Paz remains at the club, Como are keen to bring in Liberali to provide competition and depth. The Como lead chase for former Milan youngster Liberali also aligns with their strategy of acquiring young, hungry talent with room to grow.

Liberali’s style of play is well-suited to Fabregas’s system. He is a technically gifted playmaker who can operate in central areas or drift wide, with excellent vision and an eye for goal. His work rate and tactical intelligence have improved markedly under the tutelage of experienced coaches. At Catanzaro, he was often deployed as a trequartista or as a second striker, and his ability to link play and create chances made him a fan favourite.

The competition for his signature remains fierce. Sassuolo, now in Serie B but with immediate promotion ambitions, see him as a cornerstone of their rebuild. Torino, under Abate, are building a young core, and Fiorentina are looking to add depth to their midfield. However, Como’s location on Lake Como, the presence of Fabregas, and their upward trajectory in Serie A give them a distinct advantage. The Como lead chase for former Milan youngster Liberali is not just about money; it’s about project and playing time.

From Milan’s perspective, the situation is a win-win. If Como finalise the deal, the Rossoneri will pocket €3 million from the sell-on clause, recouping a substantial portion of their initial investment. Liberali’s development at Como could also see his value rise further, benefitting Milan in the long term. For the player, a move to Como offers a platform to showcase his talent at the highest level and potentially earn a call-up to the national team.

As the summer window heats up, all eyes will be on the negotiation table. Como are confident of securing the deal, but they must move quickly to fend off rival interest. The next few weeks will be crucial in determining where Liberali plies his trade next season. If successful, the Como lead chase for former Milan youngster Liberali will be remembered as one of the smartest pieces of business in Serie A this summer.

In conclusion, Mattia Liberali is on the cusp of a significant career move. His journey from Milan’s youth academy to Serie B standout and now to a probable Serie A return highlights the unpredictable nature of football careers. Como’s proactive approach in the transfer market underscores their ambition to establish themselves as a top-flight mainstay. Fans of the Lombardy club have every reason to be excited about what Liberali could bring to the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia. The coming days will reveal whether Como’s persistence pays off, but one thing is certain: the race for Liberali is far from over.
