Lazio Intensify Talks for Sergi Dominguez Amid Tottenham Interest

FolioPitch.com – 26 June 2026 | Lazio are still negotiating a deal for Spanish defender wanted at Spurs, as the Biancocelesti look to reinforce their backline following a defensive overhaul. The Serie A side is in active discussions with Dinamo Zagreb over 21-year-old Sergi Dominguez, a former Barcelona youth product who has emerged as a key figure in Croatia.

Defensive Shake-Up at Lazio

Lazio have already agreed to sell veteran center-back Alessio Romagnoli to Qatari club Al-Sadd, while Mario Gila is attracting strong interest from Napoli and Atalanta. To fill the gaps, the club is promoting Danish talent Oliver Provstgaard from within, but they still need an external signing to replace Gila. The solution appears to be Dominguez, a Spanish defender who has experience in both La Liga and the Croatian league.

Dominguez’s Rise at Dinamo Zagreb

After graduating from Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy, Dominguez left last summer in search of regular playing time. He found it at Dinamo Zagreb, where he made 41 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing four assists. His performances helped Dinamo win the domestic double, catching the eye of several European clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur. However, as Lazio are still negotiating a deal for Spanish defender wanted at Spurs, the Italian club faces competition but may have an advantage.

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, negotiations are progressing, with Lazio willing to offer at least €10 million plus bonuses. The defender’s youth, versatility, and familiarity with top-level football make him an attractive prospect for coach Marco Baroni’s squad.

Tottenham’s Changing Priorities

While Spurs have tracked Dominguez under new manager Roberto De Zerbi, they have since signed Argentine defender Marcos Senesi, reducing the urgency for another center-back. This shift in priority could open the door for Lazio to finalize the transfer without a bidding war. Nevertheless, Lazio are still negotiating a deal for Spanish defender wanted at Spurs, and they remain cautious about potential late interest from the Premier League.

In addition to Dominguez, Lazio are also monitoring Brighton’s Italian-born defender Diego Coppola, who is reportedly unsettled at the Amex and could welcome a return to Italy. This dual approach highlights the club’s determination to strengthen their defense before the new season.

Conclusion

As Lazio push to complete their defensive rebuild, the focus remains on Sergi Dominguez. The club’s persistence in negotiations signals their belief that he can become a cornerstone of their backline for years to come. With Tottenham’s interest now cooling, Lazio have a clear path to secure the Spanish star. If they succeed, it will be a significant coup for Serie A, proving that Lazio are still negotiating a deal for Spanish defender wanted at Spurs – and are close to winning that race.
