Lazio Target Fares Ghedjemis as Potential Replacement for Departing Matteo Cancellieri

FolioPitch.com – 01 July 2026 | Lazio are exploring the possibility of signing Frosinone winger Fares Ghedjemis as a replacement for Matteo Cancellieri, who is expected to leave the club this summer. According to sources, Lazio enquire about newly-promoted Serie A winger who could replace Cancellieri, with the Biancocelesti looking to bolster their attacking options under new coach Gennaro Gattuso.

The potential move comes as Lazio prepare to offload Cancellieri, who has been deemed surplus to requirements after falling down the pecking order. The 24-year-old Italian struggled for consistent game time last season and has attracted interest from Olympiacos, Fiorentina, and Torino. Meanwhile, Gustav Isaksen is expected to remain as the first-choice right winger, but the club is seeking a reliable backup. In this context, Lazio enquire about newly-promoted Serie A winger who could replace Cancellieri, viewing Ghedjemis as an ideal candidate to provide depth and competition.

Ghedjemis, 23, was a standout performer for Frosinone in Serie B last season, contributing 15 goals and three assists in 37 appearances to help the Canarini secure promotion as runners-up. His pace, dribbling, and ability to cut inside from the right flank make him a natural fit for Gattuso’s tactical setup. The French-Algerian, who is left-footed and primarily operates as an inverted winger, can also play on the left or as an attacking midfielder. His versatility is a key reason why Lazio enquire about newly-promoted Serie A winger who could replace Cancellieri, offering multiple tactical options.

However, negotiations may be complicated by Frosinone’s valuation. Reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport indicate that the club has placed a €10 million price tag on Ghedjemis, a figure Lazio consider excessive. The Aquile’s sporting director, Angelo Fabiani, is exploring ways to secure a more favorable deal, possibly including add-ons or a loan with an option to buy. Ghedjemis’ current contract runs until June 2028, giving Frosinone significant leverage. Nevertheless, Lazio’s interest remains strong as they continue to scout alternatives.

Ghedjemis’ career trajectory is notable. He began at Troyes before spells at Le Havre, Evreux, Vannes, and Rouen, eventually joining Frosinone in January 2024 for a modest €300,000 fee. His rapid rise underscores his potential, and a move to a club like Lazio could represent a significant step up. As the transfer window progresses, all eyes will be on whether Lazio can reach an agreement that satisfies both parties.

In conclusion, Lazio enquire about newly-promoted Serie A winger who could replace Cancellieri, signaling their intent to strengthen the squad ahead of the new season. While financial hurdles remain, the player’s profile and proven track record make him a compelling target. If a deal materializes, Ghedjemis could provide the depth and quality needed to support Isaksen and enhance Lazio’s attacking firepower.
