Lazio Targets Sergi Dominguez as Defensive Revamp Takes Shape

FolioPitch.com – 03 July 2026 | Ex-Barcelona Defender Tops Lazio Shortlist as Fiorentina Youngster Emerges, signaling a significant defensive overhaul at the Stadio Olimpico. The Biancocelesti are planning to bring in at least one new centre-back this summer, with Spanish talent Sergi Dominguez emerging as the primary target.

Lazio are reportedly on the verge of parting ways with two key defenders. Alessio Romagnoli has agreed to join Al-Sadd, while Mario Gila is attracting interest from Napoli and Atalanta. These potential departures would force a defensive revamp at Formello. Although left-footed Oliver Provstgaard is expected to step into a starting role, the club still needs to recruit a right-footed defender—hence the pursuit of Dominguez.

The 21-year-old Dominguez rose through Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy before joining Dinamo Zagreb last summer. He immediately established himself as a protagonist, helping the Croatian giants clinch a domestic double. His impressive performances have driven his price tag above €10 million, a figure Lazio can only reach by selling Gila.

While some reports have identified Brighton’s Diego Coppola as a more affordable option, journalist Alfredo Pedulla insists that Dominguez remains the ultimate priority. Lazio no longer face competition from Tottenham Hotspur, who have pulled out, but other Premier League clubs could enter the fray. As the transfer window heats up, the narrative that Ex-Barcelona Defender Tops Lazio Shortlist as Fiorentina Youngster Emerges continues to dominate headlines.

Sky Sport Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio confirms Lazio’s keen interest in Dominguez but also reveals an alternative: Fiorentina’s Pietro Comuzzo. The 21-year-old has become a regular feature for the Viola, but Lazio could only afford him on an initial loan deal. Unless Fiorentina agree to a temporary formula, Comuzzo remains a distant option.

Lazio’s transfer strategy is constrained by a net-zero spending policy, meaning every purchase must be funded by a sale. The club is currently focused on offloading Gila to finance the Dominguez deal. With the summer window progressing, the Biancocelesti must act swiftly to secure their top defensive target. In conclusion, Lazio’s defensive future hangs in the balance. The coming weeks will determine if they can successfully execute a double deal—selling Gila and bringing in Dominguez—or if they must pivot to Comuzzo or another alternative. The saga of Ex-Barcelona Defender Tops Lazio Shortlist as Fiorentina Youngster Emerges will certainly be one of the most compelling stories of the Serie A transfer window.
