Luka Modric to Extend AC Milan Stay: New Contract Expected This Week

FolioPitch.com – 20 July 2026 | According to Croatian outlet Germanijak, Luka Modric is set to sign a new contract with AC Milan this week, marking a significant development for the Rossoneri. The news, which has been circulating for weeks, now appears to be confirmed from sources close to the player. The article titled “Germanijak Modric to sign new contract with Milan this week the details” has sparked excitement among Milan fans, as the veteran midfielder prepares to commit to another season at San Siro.

Germanijak reports that Modric will put pen to paper on a one-year deal, likely on Wednesday, with financial terms identical to his current contract: €3.5 million plus bonuses. This move underscores the 39-year-old’s enduring value, despite his age, and his desire to remain at the highest level. The news comes shortly after new Milan head coach Ruben Amorim publicly praised Modric, calling him a “key player” for the team’s possession-based style. Amorim emphasized that while Modric may not start every game, his experience and technical ability will be crucial in the upcoming season.

Separately, Germanijak also revealed that Modric recently had lunch with new Croatia coach Slaven Bilić in Zadar. Bilić, during his introductory press conference, expressed his intention to convince the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner to continue representing the national team. This suggests that Modric may not yet be ready to retire from international duty, though speculation remains about a potential farewell ceremony during Croatia’s Nations League match against Spain on October 6 in Poljud.

The confirmation of Modric’s contract extension is a relief for Milan supporters, who have seen the midfielder’s influence wane slightly this season but still regard him as a leader on and off the pitch. The team’s pursuit of a Scudetto has been revitalized with Amorim’s appointment, and retaining Modric provides continuity in midfield. The Croatian playmaker’s ability to control tempo and unlock defenses remains world-class, and his presence will be vital as Milan looks to compete both domestically and in Europe.

This development also highlights the strong ties between Modric and the club. Despite offers from other leagues, including lucrative proposals from Saudi Arabia and MLS, the midfielder has chosen to stay at Milan. The terms of the new contract, matching his previous salary, reflect a mutual commitment to achieving success together. Germanijak’s report has been widely circulated, with Italian media corroborating the details. The official announcement is expected midweek, ending weeks of speculation.

For Milan, securing Modric’s services is a statement of intent. The club is building a squad capable of challenging for top honors, and the Croatian’s experience will be invaluable. While younger talents like Sandro Tonali and Ismaël Bennacer form the future, Modric’s mentorship and game intelligence offer a short-term boost. The contract extension also sends a positive message to fans and potential signings about the club’s ambition.

In conclusion, the story of “Germanijak Modric to sign new contract with Milan this week the details” appears to be accurate, with all signs pointing to a renewal. Modric’s decision to stay at Milan for another season is a win-win for both parties. The Croatian legend continues his legacy in Serie A, while Milan retains a player capable of moments of brilliance. As the week unfolds, the official confirmation will solidify this move, allowing both the player and the club to focus on the challenges ahead.
