FolioPitch.com – 01 July 2026 | Udinese have made a bold statement of intent in the summer transfer window by securing two creative midfielders in a single day. The Serie A side has reportedly locked down agreements for Watford’s Giorgi Chakvetadze and Athletic Club‘s Unai Gomez, signaling their ambition to build on a comfortable mid-table finish last season. The Friulani have been active in the market since the season ended, and this double move underscores their strategy to inject youth and creativity into the squad. Unai Gomez, a 23-year-old product of Athletic Club’s famed youth academy, brings versatility and energy to the midfield. In 37 appearances last season across all competitions, he contributed two goals and one assist, demonstrating his ability to influence the game in the final third. On the other side of the double deal, Giorgi Chakvetadze arrives from Watford after a mixed spell in the Championship. The Georgia international, who turns 27 next month, is a veteran of 39 senior caps with 10 goals for his country. He joined Watford from KAA Gent in 2024 for €2.5 million after an initial loan, but managed only three assists in 29 league games last season. The negotiations for both players were handled swiftly, with Sky Sport Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reporting that Udinese moved decisively once terms were agreed. These acquisitions add depth to a squad that already features the likes of Florian Thauvin and Lazar Samardžić, but the new recruits provide different profiles. Coach Kosta Runjaic, who guided the team to a safe 12th-place finish in his debut campaign, has been vocal about needing more creativity in the middle of the park. The departures of key players like Destiny Udogie and Rodrigo Becão in recent windows left gaps, but the club has reinvested wisely. The double signing also reflects a broader trend of Serie A clubs targeting young talent from La Liga and the Championship. Udinese’s network of scouts, known for unearthing gems, have once again delivered. The Report Udinese secure Chakvetadze and Unai Gomez deals is expected to be officially confirmed in the coming days pending medicals.

Looking ahead, Udinese fans can anticipate a more dynamic midfield. Gomez, who made his senior debut for Athletic Club in 2021, is eager to test himself in a new league. His ability to play as a winger or central midfielder gives Runjaic tactical flexibility. Chakvetadze, meanwhile, will be hoping to rediscover the form that made him a star at Gent, where he scored 11 goals and provided 15 assists in 78 appearances. The Georgian’s international pedigree adds further lure. This Report Udinese secure Chakvetadze and Unai Gomez deals is not just about the present; it is an investment in the club’s long-term vision.
